As a Marine Corps veteran, I am well versed in resolving adverse situations to keep projects moving forward toward our ultimate goal: the successful completion of our project in a timely manner.
As a native Floridian, I’ve developed means and methods of construction and design that are conducive to embracing the tropical nature of the climate of Florida to take advantage of the different weather patterns and exposures that affect the environment in which we work and live. I have traveled extensively throughout the region and the Caribbean and the Pacific rim to observe firsthand the effects of extreme weather on construction components, homes, and buildings. This has allowed me to witness methods and materials that work well under duress and those that fail to live up to expectations.
When making elemental decisions regarding design aspects and components of a project I ask three questions:
An element of the design must meet two of the three criteria or we must consider that element may not be up to our standards.
I practice a philosophy I call the Concentric Circles of Sustainability. This involves using local subcontractors and local material suppliers as well as locally sourced materials as much as possible.
I have studied building design pre-air conditioning to see how I can incorporate these concepts into modern building design to enhance the natural heating and cooling tendencies of a structure thereby increasing the efficiency of structure’s environment and the utilities such as HVAC, water heating and supply, water consumption, maintenance and positive air flow.
